The starting point in all instances is to determine how material is stored now and how it will be stored at the new location by accounting for:
- What is to be moved – quantity and type of material.
- Will the material be retained in the existing storage units or others but with a similar specification?
- What changes, if any, are planned to the media, storage system or sequence?
Moving material on a shelf-to-shelf basis where the storage is the same or equivalent to the new system is very straightforward. A unique reference number identifies each shelf space. This is indicated on labels, which are placed on the current storage unit. D. Sharp Removals operative staff will replicate the labelling procedure during the packing process placing the material left to right within the crate with the label affixed to the crates left hand edge. At the new location, the material is simply unpacked using the agreed reference system.
Moving filing to a different storage system, or undertaking re-sequencing of the material, requires more thought although the principles are essentially the same. Aspects which do need to be accounted for include any projected expansion of the system, fitting or adjusting bars or shelves and identifying the beginning and end of each individual filing system or sub section.
